Former town, district and county councillor from Bradford on Avon has died

Rosemary Brown was born in Dublin and served as a Liberal Democrat councillor for Bradford on Avon Town Council, the West Wilts Council and Wiltshire Council over a period of 18 years.

She stepped down from her councillor roles 18 months ago but was still working full time at BLB Solicitors in Trowbridge.

Her son Clive Brown said: “My mother worked tirelessly throughout her life and the Liberal Democrats provided her with a platform to continue that work in the local community.

“She was not driven by political ambition, simply a desire to serve and represent the people of Bradford on Avon where she spent the happiest years of her life.

“I can see from recent correspondence that she was pressing the council to get the tennis courts repaired at Victory Playing Fields which highlighted her commitment to the town.”

Mrs Brown also sat as a trustee of the Colonel William Llewellen Palmer Educational Charity in Bradford on Avon.

The Charity was set up to support the education and well-being of young people who live in, or who go to school in, Bradford on Avon.

Cllr Laurie Brown (no relation) said: “Rosemary was one of the most dedicated and committed councillors working on behalf of the town.

“She passionately believed in transforming the Colonel William Llewellen Palmer Trust and lived long enough to see it transferred to the council.”

Cllr Jim Lynch, a town and Wiltshire Council member, said: “I am Rosemary’s successor and we worked very closely together.

“I cannot hope to fill her boots. She was a lovely lady and we shared an Irish heritage. I can only do my best to emulate her.”

Mrs Brown lived at St Margaret’s Villas. She leaves two children, Clive and Honor, and three adored grandchildren.

Her funeral is on Friday, August 24 at Holy Trinity Church, at 1pm, followed by a private family burial at the Bradford on Avon cemetery.

Guests are invited to The Swan Hotel immediately after the service for refreshments and to share memories.
