ORGANISERS of a charity bike ride in Bradford on Avon are appealing to cyclists to take part in this year’s pedalling power challenge.

George’s Marvellous Bike Ride 2018 is set to return for its sixth year on Sunday, September 2 after taking a break last year.

The event is a family-friendly cycle ride taking in the scenic Kennet & Avon Canal towpath, the Two Tunnels cycle route and the Georgian splendour of Bath.

There are several rides to choose from, ranging from 11 miles up to 60 miles, all starting and finishing at The Boathouse.

The ride was set up in memory of George Hutchings, who had quadriplegic cerebral palsy, and died aged nine in 2012.

Each year riders help to raise thousands of pounds for worthy causes. This year’s chosen charities are Stepping Stones and Scope.

George’s Mum, Anna Hutchings, is hoping for the biggest turn-out to date this year. She said: “As you probably noticed, George’s Marvellous Bike Ride had a ‘fallow year’ in 2017, but we are delighted to say that we are back for 2018 and raring to go!

“We set up GMBR in 2012 as a way of raising much-needed funds for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

“The emphasis for us has always been about creating a fun, friendly event suitable for all the family and it has grown in popularity each year thanks to the dedication of the riders who sign up.

“The more riders we get, the more money we can raise to make a real difference to the charities we support.”

Cyclists will set off from The Boathouse at 10am. To take part please send an email to georgesmarvellousbikeride@gmail.com.

There is no charge to join in, and no minimum amount of sponsorship to raise, although riders are encouraged to raise as much money as possible to support Stepping Stones and Scope.
