Specialist search teams including officers trained in river rescues are still at work along the River Avon in the centre of Bradford on Avon.

The officers were sent into action over fears a woman may have fallen or jumped into the water, following the discovery early this morning of a number of personal items in the river.

Officers retrieved a rucksack, a purse and medicines from the water, and also found a second bag and a phone charger stuck in long weeds nearby.

A search on The Bullpit bank, where there are railings along the river's edge, revealed items including headphones, a lighter and cigarette filters and other smaller items strewn across a bench.

It is understood the current police and search and rescue operation is due to continue.
