CONCERNED Trowbridge residents handed out leaflets at the town park to highlight their frustrations over a developer’s plans to build on a historic orchard.

Nearly 2,000 people have signed a petition that opposes Ashford Homes’ plans to convert Courtfield House, off Polebarn Road, and the land it is on into 21 flats and houses.

Wiltshire Council has since extended the deadline for feedback to September 10 and Polebarn Road resident Jackie Harding believes that this is down to locals raising concerns about the development.

And on Saturday, they gave out hundreds of leaflets to raise awareness of this issue – something that struck a chord with locals.

“People in the park were overwhelmingly supportive and want to save the orchard for the community,” she said.

“Courtfield House and orchard are neglected. There has been further vandalism this week. The house is a listed building, in a conservation area, and the owners have a duty to care for it.

“I believe this extension is down to people power. We are going to keep the pressure on them.We are not saying don’t do anything here but they should do something better.”
