A YOUNG couple with four children and a fifth on the way have complained to Selwood Housing about a repairs delay that is preventing them from using their largest bedroom.

Emily and Meric Haynes, of Southville Road, Bradford on Avon, already have four girls – Freya, nine, Eleanor, six, Evangeline, four, and Thalia, two.

Emily is now 24 weeks pregnant with their fifth child and having to sleep on a mattress on the floor after being forced to move out of their main bedroom.

She claims a plasterer working in their three-bedroom home has told them he can’t come back to finish the job until the end of September.

Emily, 26, said: “We started stripping the wallpaper off the wall in the largest bedroom to redecorate it so that we could move three of the girls into one room.

“But we found the plaster on the walls was damaged in some areas. The ceilings are all blown from when they worked on the roof four years ago.

“When Selwood came out to inspect the house they said all three bedrooms would need to be re-plastered completely.

“We asked Selwood to fix it but the plasterer has only done two walls so far and says he can’t come back until the end of September.

“All we want is for Selwood to do the job properly so that we can move back into the bedroom and then start work on the others.”

The couple have been forced to move two of the children into the smallest bedroom, while they sleep in the second largest with the two other children.

A Selwood Housing spokesman said: “ The repairs to the main bedroom will be almost complete by Monday and then we will look at the other rooms.

“The extent of the work has increased since our surveyor’s original visit, due to all the wallpaper in the room being removed.

“We have asked the customer not to strip wallpaper from both of the other two bedrooms, as we need to do the work in stages.”
