SHOW organiser David Ecob took home the top trophy at Winsley on Saturday (8 Sept).

Mr Ecob scored the most points overall in the 57th Winsley Show to win the Colbourne Challenge Cup.

He also picked up the Carlisle Cup for the highest points in the flower section, and the Bristow Cup for the most points scored in the home crafts with his artisan bread and blackberry liquer.

Lastly, he won the Turleigh & Winsley WI Memorial Cup for the most outstanding exhibit, his strawberry jam, in the preserves section.

Along the way, he picked up seven first places, five second and three third places.

Mr Ecob, 69, of Green Lane, Turleigh, said: “This year’s show has broken all records for the number of entries and attendance. We’ve had fierce competition in all of the 88 classes.”

Winsley Parish Council chairman, Ed Gilby, who handed out the prizes, including one to his wife Sue, said: “There have been some really high quality entries.”

The introduction of a class for bread and fruit liqueur stimulated entries.

The show classes included vegetables, flowers, flower arrangements, handicrafts and home crafts.

For children, there was a fun section for strange vegetables and a young person’s section complete with a class for sunflowers grown by local youngsters.

All proceeds from the show will be distributed to support local village organisations and amenities.
