TROWBRIDGE Civic Centre foyer has been given a £4,000 make-over and re-named The Civic.

The aim is to create a more vibrant, versatile and flexible space to attract weddings, corporate events and conferences.

Town mayor, Cllr Dennis Drewett, said he was “absolutely delighted” with the results, declaring the environment was now more welcoming.

“My congratulations must go to the team here, particularly Paul Weimar, who has done a tremendous job.”

Council leader Cllr Peter Fuller said the revamp would help to regenerate the foyer and attract more people to use it.

“It looks more upmarket now than it did before. Hopefully, it will persuade people to come in for events.”

Mr Weimar, Trowbridge Town Council’s Civic Centre manager, said the team had worked round-the-clock on the revamp.

“We wanted to create a more welcoming space because the foyer was looking old and outdated,” he said.

He and his wife, Juliet, shopped around the county for pre-loved and recycled furniture to furnish the area.

Their purchases included tables and chairs and wood to re-clad the bar area.

They have also installed a Costa coffee machine in one corner, and Light Fantastic from Melksham installed new overhead lighting.

The whole area was also repainted in fresh grey and white to give it a more contemporary feel.

At the relaunch on Monday, Cllr Drewett praised the dedication and commitment of the small team of staff who had worked on the project.

“I hope you all enjoy your new and exciting venue,” he told more than 50 guests.

The project was completed with help from sponsors including Bacardi, Thatchers and Tolchards.

The Shaw Trust at Palmer Gardens in Trowbridge supplied outdoor planters and plants for the front of The Civic and its terraced area.
