A FIRE engine bound for London ended up crash-landing on its side after a collision in Westbury.

The appliance was in collision with an articulated lorry in Quartermaster Road.

It is understood the non-operational fire appliance belonging to London Fire Brigade was being tested prior to delivery.

The accident happened just after 3pm near the Welton, Bibby and Baron manufacturing site in Westbury.

The vehicle toppled over onto its side after colliding with the lorry, forcing the road to be closed.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Three fire crews were sent, from Westbury, Warminster and Bradford on Avon, and also the heavy rescue unit from Trowbridge.

“Fortunately neither driver was trapped and both drivers were checked over at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

“There was a slight spillage of water onto the road.”

The London Fire Brigade team left just after 4pm and the road was later re-opened.
