A MOTORIST has been airlifted to hospital in Salisbury with serious injuries after a two-vehicle collision on the A36 near Warminster.

Long delays are expected on the route through Black Dog Hill after the collision that took place at around 5pm this evening.

Emergency services are currently at the scene and firefighters had to cut the motorist from his car before being flown to hospital.

Once again another smash on Blackdog hill.
I don't know the circumstances of this unfortunate incident, however, as some people obviously can't look after their own safety, isn't it about time a central barrier was erected down the middle of this 3 lane suicide way to stop impatient drivers overtaking and killing and injuring themselves and others ?

Barriers would be good, then the people that fail to drive safely will only take themselves out, and not innocent people.

Disgusted of Westbury - It's people like you that make me sick !! Spouting off when you don't have a clue.

I was there and I happen to know what the cause was. Absolutely nothing could have prevented this tragedy. Spare a thought for the family at this sad time.

I agree with Wiltshire Resident ... everyone is quick to point the finger and talk about dangerous driving, but that's not been reported. Shame on you. My sympathies to the poor man's family.

As you were there 'Wiltshire Resident' I trust you have answered the appeal from the police on what actual happened in this RTA. All I know is that yet again Christmas has been ruined for two families.

With this area of road, vehicles are legally allowed to overtake both up and down the hill....its time the council revised the white lining system on this stretch of road...no doubt niether driver was at fault here..its time to sort the road markings out! I give my sympathys to both families at this terrible time so close to Christmas.

Paul of Warminster, I don't have to answer any appeals. I ws one fo the first officers to arrive - that's how I know what happened and that's why I get fed up with all the conclusions being drawn by people who don't know the facts. Its not helpful and, for the families involved, its very distressing.

Disgusted of Westbury you have now lived up to your name. How crass to go spouting off making assumptions and hurling abusive comments without knowing ANY of the factors. Just like you do on the Westbury forum as RTT.
May the poor man rest in peace and sympathies to his family and friends. Also spare a thought for people like 'wiltshire resident' who have to take tragedies and carnage like this in their stride and put up with the sort of rubbish we see here.

Wiltshire Resident, I like yourself have attended many RTA's like this one in and around Warminster. People do make allegations without knowing the truth. BlackDog is and always will be a death trap unless something is done. How can we get the wheels in motion?

The Dazman, Wiltshire says...

Paul I think it all boils down to the spending budget. I think a 'central' reservation would be the most cost effective answer. In what capacity do you attend car smash ups?

Dazman, Medicial retired from the big red trucks, hence I do feel strongly about getting the deaths down on our roads. Certain roads need modifying, one of them is BlackDog. Like you stated barriers would stop cars crossing the lanes or just double white line down the hill. Either is a minor cost rather than people lossing their lives or getting bady injuried.

Its a shame to hear of another families sorrow at anytime of year, especailly now. My thoughts are with them. Lets try not to read these articles and jump to conclusions and play the blame game.

Double white lines all the way down.

Sadly we will hear about many more deaths on this dangerous stretch of road until something is done to make it safe.
In the cold and calculating way these things are looked at by the Highways Agency, via cost-benefit analysis, this stretch of road must already be a number one priority.
We locals know of the dangers only too well but spare thought for all of those who have lost their lives on this stretch since it was remodelled in 1975. It is a shocking scandal.

Dear Dazman, your name rings a bell????? but it will has you many of them ???? May be you should ask the council to put forward a motion for debate on having a safer road ...

Oh dear Rosie, how pathetic. Why do people insist on turning un-related threads on this site into a Russell Hawker bashing fest. Grow up.

Back on-topic: my condolences to the family of the man who lost his life on this terrible section of road.

This is a dangerous section of road but then it always has been. Prior to the re-model in mid-70s it was a narrow winding and steep 2-lane road with the notorious 'Dead Maids' cross-roads at the top of the hill -remember all the fatal accidents there? The road authorities need to look at this again and admit they have made a mistake. Study what happened with the A303 Ilminster by-pass when that was built in the late 80s - it took several fatalities before it was changed again into the current 'safe' layout.

Rodie, I am not Hawker! I have been posting on here for months, my name is Daz Garrett and unlike many others I am not afraid to 'go public'. I just know who "Disgusted of Westbury" is through a mate who lives in Westbury Leigh and is an addict on the town forum! Back on topic, I sincerely hope the local authorities get their finger out with this stretch of road and soon !

Totally disagree. These three-lane roads are the most stupid and dangerous thing we have inherited from the 70's. Even when overtaking is clearly banned, there are boy racers who'll do it.
