CHILDREN at King's Park Primary School, Lowbourne, Melksham, are to take part in special healthy eating activities.

Student nutritionist Danielle Bretherton, from the school's catering company Scolarest, will be spending a day at the school on Thursday.

During her visit, she will give a healthy eating assembly for children with information on why eating properly helps you stay fit and well in addition to tips on the other important aspects of a healthy lifestyle, such as regular exercise.

In the afternoon, Danielle will hold an after-school roadshow for pupils and parents including fun tasting sessions giving children and mums and dads the opportunity to try dishes from Scolarest's school menus.

All the company's menus fully comply with Government school meal standards with a strong emphasis on fresh fruit, vegetables and salad and home-cooked dishes.

Parents and pupils at King's Park Primary will be able to sample main courses such as freshly prepared chicken and broccoli bake and spicy lamb korma as well as tucking into pear and cinnamon pudding and fruity crunchy crumble.

They will also have the chance to talk to Danielle about how the menus are put together and nutritionally analysed to ensure that they provide children with the right balance of foods.

Children will also be able to take part in healthy eating themed quizzes and competitions testing their knowledge of food and nutrition.

Danielle said: "We put a lot of effort into ensuring that our meals are always nutritionally balanced and appealing to children.

"It's great to be able to give both pupils and parents the chance to find out more about what we do, and how our menus are developed.

"The day will also help children to learn more about how to stay healthy through eating well and by taking care of themselves in other ways."
