Dr Who Tardis on sale on eBay

Comments (35)A TROWBRIDGE Christian who renounced the evil of Dr Who in favour of his religion is selling his collection on internet auction website eBay.
Simon White, 47, became obsessed with Dr Who from a very early age and started collecting and building life-size models.
He shares his home in Boundary Walk with a full-size Tardis that he built himself, a huge Dalek, two Cybermen and model of Dr Who's robotic dog K-9.
The collection, which Mr White estimates is worth nearly £7,000, was built up over a number of years but is to be cast aside because of his religious beliefs.
Dr Who and his materialistic obsession with it represents the "greatest lie that Satan ever told" according to Mr White.
He said: "I loved science fiction as a kid. It was the Tardis that did it for me. You could get in that box and go anywhere.
"I started collecting Dr Who stuff starting with the Dalek, which I got from an old exhibition in Brighton.
"Me and a friend spent two years making the Tardis and I became obsessed. I made a model of K-9, then a full size Cyberman with authentic Dr Who parts. I couldn't stop.
"I had to retire early from my job as a nurse at the Royal United Hospital in Bath in 1998 because I was suffering from bipolar disorder.
"I turned to drink and became an alcoholic and the Dr Who obsession was the only thing that kept me going. I wouldn't have given it up if you'd have put a gun to my head."
Having discovered Christianity Mr Smith has renounced his old life and is putting the whole collection up for sale in local trade magazines and on eBay.
He said: "God delivered me from the evil that is Dr Who, materialism and alcoholism.
"Through my relationship with Jesus I saw that none of this was making me happy and I was born again like Lazarus.
"It's a timely tale as we come up to Easter. I wanted to tell others that no matter what trouble you are in God can deliver you from the evil. If you are prepared to have a relationship with him then God can help. I have been resurrected. My old life is dead, my new life is alive."

He said it was Dr Who that kept him going and saved him from alcohol so why is it suddenly evil? Maybe he should actually stop and take a look at reality.

Anyone who gives up control over their life to a faith system is unhinged IMHO. I don't argue with the intentions, but the delivery mechanism is flawed beyond repair, you don't need to have "faith" to be a decent and "good" human being.
Religion is the greatest evil perpetrated against mankind.
Not a contentious statement I understand.

Firstly I would like to thank Benjamin Parkes, and the Wiltshire Times for a tremendous article with pictures, and their support in helping me sell my collection. I do not remember using the word "evil" and never said Dr Who was evil. My obsession with it was very unhealthy and I loved Dr Who more than I loved God. The reverse is now true. The things I loved did not make me happy, only God has done that. Have a look at the 10 commandments. Dr Who had become my idol and it did not keep me going, it failed me, it's only a TV programme after all. Alcoholics Anonymous in partnership with God, and me helping myself delivered me from alcoholism. Now it is time to get rid of the reminders of the mistakes of my past life, and I'm hoping to raise money to pay for training to study theology, provided I am well enough in the future. I wonder if it is an assumption that if a Christian sells something they must donate all the proceeds to charity, I think it's a private matter how one then plans to benfit others, though at times of course there are benefits of doing something public to set an example. I had no idea the paper was going to make such a big story out of it!

You have no idea really do you??it would have changed his life, and I appealed to him, but he didnt evenget back or offer it to us at a reduced rate, 2 grand?? who is going to pay that for a bit of painted marine ply??
I would have gladly given him some money for it, but it seems he wants to cash in on little kids ewanting this, and asking 2 grand, some poor sap will pay that for it, to please little Johnny, This has proven to me that christians are not the godly type peopl ethey make out to be, but are as selfish as the next person.

How do you respond to articles like , where church fathers are using "Doctor Who" in order to bring the message of Jesus to other people?
With appropriate respect - maybe it's time to consider that the problem isn't with "Doctor Who".
Maybe the problem's in the bipolar-disorder suffering alcoholic who allowed himself to get "obsessed" with - as good as it has been since 1963 - a TV show... and has since abandoned that obsession.
... only to start another one. And THEN went ahead to bag a TV show as "satanic", "the evil that is Dr Who, materialism and alcoholism".
You say "it's a TV show" and then you say "it failed" you and that it didn't keep you going? It's a TV show, it's meant to entertain and hopefully educate you.
You're desperately hunting for crutches. First it was "Doctor Who", then it was Alcohol. Now it's this illusory concept of "God" you have.
There's a pattern forming here; and you still haven't seen it.
Give it up. Seek some help with the bipolar disorder from an accredited professional.
... not to mention, I'm personally quite annoyed at you because of the nasty things you've said about a television show I've loved - one of several things and people I've loved - since I was old enough to know what a television was. I may be ten years younger than you, but that's still old enough to find wisdom in appropriate places.
