THERE have been numerous sightings of big cats in Wiltshire but now it seems ostriches could also be on the loose.

Police were called to the A36 near Knook on Saturday afternoon following reports of a ostrich in a nearby field.

Officers attended the scene but it later turned out to be a post behind a sheep, which appeared to the caller to have looked like an ostrich.

PC Helen Bevan, of Warminster Police, said: "While I have seen chickens at the road side I have never yet seen an ostrich, however we have to take all reports seriously."

The mind boggles!! how could any sane person mistake a sheep for an Ostrich and then go on to report it to the police!!!

What exactly would the lady officer would have done if it was an Ostrich????

I reckon it wasn't a chicken at the roadside it was actually a ****.

I reckon PC Bevan is not taking this Ostrich seriously, and is burying her head in the sand !

If the supposed Ostrich was not in the road causing danger to traffic, then what possible reason would the Police have to take any notice anyway?

There are Ostrich farms in some places (allegedly).

I fancy an Ostrich steak now.

I'll settle for an Ostrich curry or burger.

why was this report taken 'seriously' by the police anyway? I've seen loads of big birds in JB's and I've never needed to call the police about them
