A PRIMARY school in Trowbridge has been given an award for its dedication to teaching reading, writing and maths.
The Basic Skills Award recognises school that fulfil ten requirements including having an action plan for improving English and maths and giving the pupils extra help.
The Grove Primary School, in Hazel Grove, Trowbridge, was given the award in recognition of some of the policies it introduced to help inspire pupils.
One of the most successful schemes was the writer of the month whereby teachers select one pupil for excellent writing each month and display their work on a special board.
Deputy head Jonathan Cook helped to win the award for the school and arranged a presentation for the children with guest children's writer Alison Scarlett Giblin.
Mr Cook said: "We tried to make the award for the children because they are the ones who have worked so hard and got behind the reading and writing projects.
"It was great to have Alison here with the pupils as she has given talks and done readings with them in the past. We're all really pleased to receive the award."
