TWO doctors from the Porch Surgery in Corsham are due to talk to members of the public at the annual town meeting tonight.

Dr Simon Burrell and Dr Andrew Cowie are due to give a presentation on the possible changes to health care provision in the town in the light of a possible merger between the Corsham surgery and Box Surgery.

The plans to merge the surgeries and create one single surgery in Rudloe is currently being reviewed.

Scores of residents are expected to turn up for the meeting to find out why the surgery felt it needed to expand and move.

Both surgeries say they need to expand and at the Primary Care Trust's suggestion they have started discussions.

Corsham town councillor Peter Davis has branded the plans ludicrous' and said the move could mean elderly people and mothers with prams will have to travel miles for medical care.

He said he will make sure the issue is kept in the public eye and urged patients to comment on the proposals.

Dr Simon Burrell and Dr Andrew Cowie you are making a big mistake, leave them as they are as some older people cant get to Rudloe from Corsham or Box.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!

Yer but Older people (OAP) get Free Bus passes. Single parents don't. There are a lot of residents at Rudloe & Katherine Park who have to find transport to Box or Cosham Doctors, at both of which parking is atrocious. I would say build One new bigger central Surgery.

Yes Triumph Older people do get Free Bus Passes but they can only travel after 0930hrs and some old people are to frail to get on a bus will the Doctors do home visits for them all the time at the moment they can afford a taxi from home to the Surgery.

I went to the meeting last night and there pros and cons to the idea, if they build the new surgery with the facilities they reckon are going to be available I think you will be saying goodbye to a perfectly good hospital in Chippenham. Also it is bad enough trying to get an appointment now with the doctor I dread to think what it will be like if they merge!!!

Why caint they up date Chippenham for all the extras like physio and blood tests ect and use the rooms used for extra doctors which should be the main priority to my mind when they amalgamate things its just a form of cutting back and saving money if they have a joint surgery they wont need so many receptionists and nursing staff because the numbers for each surgery will be combined and we all know that is how the PCT operate that is what happened when everything went to the RUH it made a nightmare with the parking and of course if they combine it we will have to pay for parking to visit the doctor Its all a big excuse to save them money and cost us more

The Porch Surgery asked for and got planning approval to expand in 2006.
It looks like they haven't built it. Time for a re-think?
