Dr Who fanatic builds dalek

A DOCTOR Who fanatic is building his very own Dalek to keep in his living room.

Iain Brownlie, 36, from Sandalwood Road, Westbury, is studying for a library and information degree at Aberystwyth University for his job as library assistant at the Land Warfare Centre in Warminster. But in his spare time he escapes into the sci-fi world of Dr Who.

Mr Brownlie said: "I've always wanted a Dalek. It's the ultimate thing to have for a Dr Who fan.

"It's in the garage at the moment while I'm building it but hopefully it will be going in the living room. My family think I'm a bit mad.

"I'm using MDF, plastic and fibreglass to build it, but it's having the time and the money because I'm on a tight budget as I'm studying for a degree at the moment."

Mr Brownlie also has plans for a Dr Who tattoo on his back.

He said: "I've had a couple of Dr Who tattoos. I had two of the 70s logos on both arms. One was done a couple of weeks ago and I got the other about six months ago. They cost £70 each."

Although he has been a fan for nearly 30 years Mr Brownlie believes the current doctor is one of the best.

yes, it's a cool hobby. but is it news? And what happens if he does like the other bloke a few weeks ago, and finds God and denounces Daleks as the work of the devil?

I agree with the other poster. It's not even unusual these days to find someone building a Dalek at home. There must be hundreds of them out there and this kind of news story has been done to death. There is even an official group for them called The Dalek Builders Guild where they get all the plans and stuff.

I would much rather see light hearted stories in the local news like this, rather than reading morbid depressing stories. IF it means less of them have happened then that is a good thing.
Not in to Doc Who myself.

I'm on the side of those who want to read news in their newspaper.
The Wiltshire Times is getting to be more like a 'Parish Magazine' of late.
And whats more - when the do report on something newsworthy they seem to omit facts in favour of spin.

A Dr Who tatoo eh? well i'd be careful because if the doc morphs into a new form it could be old news pretty quick. As for the daleks, I think it could be a sinister plan to take over the world, make sure it isn't too realistic. Beam him up scottie!

I agree, but lately the whole WT looks as though it has no staff reporters and relies on contributions from the public. There is no in-depth reporting. Traffic accidents, minor house-fires, petty crime. Not quite investigative journalism, is it?

I personally think anybody with a ginger beard should be legally bound to wear one of these darlek suits. Then they can sit in the corner and whinge out of the spouty bit/gun? how they got picked on when they were kids.
