THOSE who were banking on a trip to the circus this weekend will have to re-think their plans thanks to a spell of bad weather.
Paulo's Americano Circus was due to perform in Chippenham until Sunday on the Weastmead Playing Fields, but last week's rain caused the ground to become soft and churned up.
Ringmaster Paul carpenter said that the town council had been worried about all the trucks that come along with the circus churning up the soft muddy fields.
He said that it was no longer possible for a circus to move to another site on the spur of the moment and they would have needed to get hold of an events licence which takes ten working days to come through if they were to do so.
He said: "We are really sorry that we had to cancel the circus in Chippenham and for any disappointment caused. This was not a decision we took lightly."
The circus has just wrapped up a week in Trowbridge and are set to head to Frome from Wednesday May 14 until Sunday May 18.
Mr Carpenter said they will be in Frome at Marston Gate at the Marston Road roundabout.
He said: "We hope that people who couldn't see us in Chippenham will decide to come to Frome instead."
