Artist's work on show at zoo

PENGUINS created at a village near Warminster can be found at London Zoo this week as part of a campaign to raise awareness of global warming.

Heytesbury-based sculptor Anthony Wilson, 58, created the two three-foot high penguin models out of recycled items for the Love London Recycled Sculpture Show.

Visitors should not expect to see them at the polar enclosure though because they have been put among monkey puzzle trees, associated with hotter climates in Chile and Argentina, to highlight global warming.

"The bodies are made out of bits and pieces of cars and computers, and the stomach is made out of mud guards," Mr Wilson said.

"I chose to do penguins because they are the victims of the ice melting away and global warming.

"It is to show that their world would be turned upside down if the ice melted."

The eyes of the sculptures are made out of jam jars and each model took about a week to complete. The models will be on display at London Zoo until September 5.
