Charity walk benefits diabetics

2:00pm Monday 16th June 2008

A WALK to raise money for a diabetes charity will take place at Wiltshire College Lackham next month.

Entry to Walk in the Park is free and money raised from the one-mile walk will go towards charity Diabetes UK.

Pushchairs and wheelchair users will also be able to take part.

Walk in the Park is an annual event and has grown in popularity since starting in 1998.

This year there will be more than 100 similar events going on up and down the country.

Diabetes UK has said they are hoping hundreds of people will take part in the Lackham event to help reach this year's overall target of £1.5 million.

Organiser Dave Mosdall said: "Keeping active is really important in helping people with diabetes successfully manage their condition and helping those of us with a family history of Type 2 diabetes to prevent or delay the onset of the condition.

"It is really important that we get as many people along to the walk as possible this year.

"It is a super, family day out to support such an important cause.

"Living a healthy lifestyle is important for good diabetes control and walking is a great way to become more active.

"I would urge anyone who is available on the day to come and join us."

To register for the walk on July 6, or get a sponsorship form contact Mr Mosdall on (01249) 465826 or email diabetes_chippenham@sky.com
