A 28-YEAR-OLD man from Chippenham has been charged with theft after he allegedly took money from a woman at a supermarket cashpoint.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm on Sunday when a 49-year-old woman was getting £200 out of a machine at Sainsbury's in Bath Road, Chippenham.

After withdrawing the cash, she was approached by a man who snatched the money from her hand and ran off.

The woman was not hurt.

A local man was charged at around 5.30pm on Monday.

Sergeant Martin Alvis, of Chippenham police, said: "This a rare occurrence for Chippenham and something we of course take very, very seriously.

"We would urge members of the public to be aware of anything around them when withdrawing money."

Still at least our boys in blue did us proud on this occasion.
