A LOCAL care worker has received an accolade for his dedication to the job.

Father-of-two Ray Horan received an Excellence Award for his work at Trowbridge Oaks Care Home in West Ashton Road, Trowbridge.

He attended the London's Royal Opera House for a special ceremony and presentation to receive the award.

As well as a tour of the building Mr Horan, the activities manager, received a crystal award, a gold badge and £2,000, which he is putting toward his children's education.

He said: "The BUPA Excellence Award of the Year is one of the highest accolades you can achieve so I'm really pleased.

"It was an outstanding day and I will never forget it.

"Most important in all of this are the residents of the home who are like my family. That's what all this is about."

The award was given in recognition of the range of events he has organised for the residents including a flyover by an RAF Hercules for a veterans celebration day.

Deputy manager Tracey Williams said: "We are all incredibly proud of him. We didn't doubt him for a moment."

Mr Horan added: "I'm very grateful to Keely Simpson, the home manager, for all her support during this process."
