School's Ofsted joy

A PRIMARY school in Trowbridge has a double reason to celebrate the end of term as they have just received a glowing Ofsted report.

The Grove Primary School, in Hazel Grove, was rated as a 'good' school with 'outstanding' features by inspectors following a visit on July 1-2.

Headteacher Alastair Ponsford said: "From my point of view as head, I am very pleased with this report and proud of my entire staff team and pupils here at Grove.

"As head for a year and a half it is with pleasure that I have seen the school adapt and go from strength to strength.

"Our focus on global learning has been recognised by Ofsted as has the full range of opportunities weoffer to pupils.

"We have a very strong, united team at Grove and colleagues have risen to the challenge of a new management structure of the past year.

"This report will provide a springboardto go on and aim for an outstanding Ofsted next time around."

The 'outstanding' features recognised by inspectors included pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, adopting healthy lifestyles, adopting safe practices and making a positive contribution to the community.

There were three areas where the school could improve including improving the foundation stage outdoor area, improving marking and the use of assessment information andsetting challenging targets for pupils in Years 1 and 2.

Pupils marked the end of term with a Year 6 production of Joseph at the Arc Theatre.
