Slot Machine’s Slide Show

Friday September 19 and Satuday September 20, Rondo Theatre, Bath.

TWO performers who were refused funding by the Arts Council despite having fantastic reviews and a lengthy tour have taken to selling themselves on e-bay to raise money for their show.

Nick Tigg and Fiona Creese, known as Slot Machine were turned down for funding when they applied earlier this year.

By the time they heard the news they had already signed contracts with theatres so they decided to go ahead with the tour and raise the money themselves.

Under the heading 'Vintage 1960's Man and Woman for sale', they are auctioning themselves on e-bay and will perform songs and 'bespoke' performances for the highest bidders.

The Slide Show, presented by Slot Machine, is the very best of contemporary visual theatre.

In a small hall somewhere in England, a slide show is beginning.

A series of cultural photographs is presented by an enthusiastic husband and wife team along the theme of ancient Greece but their innocent dabbling accidentally unleashes a potent ancient force, Dionysus, god of wine and revelry, a force hidden for centuries, a force many would rather see buried again.

The innocents become embroiled in a battle to the death, caught between the god of free expression and the evil fascists.

The show is jammed full of music, live and recorded, twisted puppetry, gravity defying dance, unconventional staging, a set that is a character in itself, a complex sound-scape that runs throughout the piece, comedy cheeses and a singing guinea pig. The world premiere of a new high-speed ballet on street scooters is also featured.

Slot Machine is a new company, formed in 2006 by Fiona Creese and Nick Tigg, both of whom have worked extensively for the People Show for the last 16 years.

This is the company's first production, though the show was originally created for the People Show and sold out at the Rondo Theatre during its first tour in 2002.

Fiona and Nick have created site-specific and theatre-based work all over the world.
