A FATHER from Chippenham will be slipping on his running shoes next month to raise money memory of the 15-year-old daughter he lost to meningitis.

On October 5, Richard Dutton, 50, from Bremhill will be taking part in the Great North Run in Newcastle in aid of Bristol-based charity Meningitis Research Foundation.

The experienced runner has tackled the London Marathon in the past for the foundation.

His daughter Kate died in 2002 from the condition and together with family and friends he has already raised £32,000 in her memory through fundraising events.

He said: "I am looking forward to the Great North Run.

"Training has been hard, but hopefully I'll put in a reasonable time for the race."

Mr Dutton hopes to raise over £1,000 through sponsorship on his fundraising website.

People can support his efforts by visiting www.justgiving.com/richarddutton1 or by sending a cheque made payable to the charity to him at 65 St Mary Street, Chippenham SN15 3JF.

It's a tragic losss to a terrible illness, and I reckon as how folk won't mind if I copy the symptoms:
Fever and /or vomiting
Severe headache
Rash (anywhere on the body)
Stiff neck
Dislike of bright lights.
If you even start to suspect it, get a doctor right away.
