THE dangers of drink driving will be highlighted by Wiltshire Police from today at the start of a month-long campaign.

The police are holding a roadshow in Devizes Market Place from 10am-2.30pm today in a bid to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as drugs.

The wreckage of a Honda car in which a 20-year-old RAF Lynham serviceman lost his life has been put on display as part of the roadshow, which is touring the county over the next fortnight. Police stress the victim had not been drink driving.

The roadshow is being held in Chippenham High Street tomorrow, Wiltshire College Trowbridge on Wednesday and Wiltshire College Chippenham on Tuesday December 9.

Wiltshire Police will step up roadside enforcement in December and into the New Year, in an effort to catch drivers who ignore the warnings.

Superintendent Martin Jeffery, head of operations for Wiltshire Police, said: “We are putting a great deal of time and effort into this year’s campaign, with the intention of showing the public that drink driving is completely anti-social, and a grave danger to other road users.

"The message from us is perfectly clear - if you take a chance on drink driving, you will be caught Last year Wiltshire officers conducted 7,688 breath tests, 777 of which were positive.

The ones that drink and drive will drink and drive no matter how much effort, time and ultimatley, our money you put into it.
The laws exist to deal with this, just dispense it.
Catch them and ban them.

All well and good as well as targeting the drivers who must have bribed the examiner to pass them on test day, of whom there seem to be more and more. The speeders who are as sober as a judge, the tail-gaters, the aggresive white van men and women. Not just the stupid ones who are a half pint over the limit!!! Oh and what about those female car parkers in Tescos carpark, ever sat in your car while the Missus shops and watched their antics? Scary.
