ADAPTABLE Michael Timlin hopes he won’t pay the price for his versatility when the new Swindon Town manager is finally unveiled by the County Ground board.

The former Fulham man has played in several positions already this season, eventually settling at left-back before a fifth yellow card earned him a one-match ban.

The emergence of teenage full-back Callum Kennedy meant Timlin had to settle for a place on the bench on Saturday, as caretaker boss Dave Byrne kept faith the same team that drew with Carlisle.

Timlin, pictured, was introduced in a midfield role with 20 minutes to play, and hopes he has done enough to regain his starting shirt for the visit of Yeovil this weekend.

“We will have to see what the script is for the next game,” he said.

“I would like to go back into midfield, but if Budgie or a new manager sees me playing at left back then I will do it.

“That’s the type of person I am, I will fill in anywhere for the good of the team.

“But I think it’s good that Callum is getting his opportunity there because he deserves it.

“I was always told I was capable of playing a few good positions and playing them well, but I don’t want to be one of those players who can always fill in a gap, and when those gaps are full I don’t play.

“I’d rather play well in one position for the team, and do a job there.”

Having missed the 1-1 draw with Carlisle, Timlin was desperate to make an impact from the bench at Gresty Road.

And with the suspension slate now wiped clean, the 23-year-old is targeting another lengthy spell in the side.

“I was disappointed with getting suspended because I knew how well I was doing at the time,” he admitted.

“The main disappointment was having to sit out and know it was a possibility I would also miss the next game after that.

“But I think I needed to get the bookings out of the way, because it was playing on mind.

“It benefited Budgie because he was able to play Callum at left back for his first game at home, rather than an away game.

“It benefited the team, even if it didn’t benefit me. Budgie knows I am the type of player to take criticism well, and disappointment.

“I’m professional, and I’ll work hard for my next chance to come.”
