STAND-IN skipper Michael Timlin insists he is “delighted” with the appointment of Danny Wilson as Town’s new manager as he looks to turn the tables on Swindon’s stuttering League One season.

Sunday’s depressing 2-0 home defeat to Brighton was a reality check for Wilson and the players, with Timlin admitting the relegation zone is now too close for comfort.

But with 11 days hard graft on the training ground before the visit of Stockport County, Timlin believes Wilson can quickly transform Town’s flagging fortunes.

“After everything that has happened, I’m just delighted to have a new manager,” he said.

“He comes across as a man with a very high knowledge of the game, and hopefully we can benefit from that.

“We’ve got a good couple of weeks now until our next game against Stockport at home.

“The manager has said now is not the time to be out getting drunk and enjoying ourselves, we have to bed down if we want to do well and start working together as a squad.”

Timlin led the Robins out for the second match in succession against Brighton on Sunday, with skipper Hasney Aljofree still sidelined with a knee injury.

And the former Fulham man insists he will continue to be a ‘leader’ on the pitch, whether he wears the captain’s arm band or not.

“When I got it (the arm band) the first time I was delighted,” he said.

“I do like having the captain’s arm band because it shows I’m doing something right and the manager can trust me.

“I always talk in training and on the pitch anyway and I like to think I can do that job.

“If Danny goes with someone else it wouldn’t bother me, it would just make me want to push on and do well.

“I will always be one of those people who acts the same, whether I have the arm band or not.

“We should all be captains out there, not just one person.

“We should all be talking and helping each other.”

And Timlin knows Town will need all the help they can get to haul themselves up the League One table to safety.

Speaking after Sunday’s defeat, he said: “We knew if we had won today we could have jumped another couple of places in the table, but it wasn’t to be.

“It makes us realise how lucky we were to get the result at Leyton Orient, because it could have been far worse now.

“We have to make sure we work hard, all the squad, and bed into how the new gaffer wants us to play.”
