The sun shone as more than 700 people enjoyed Dilton Marsh carnival day on Saturday.
The day kicked off with the carnival procession through the village, which started in the east of the village in Clay Close and ended in Stormore, about a mile away.
The carnival royalty - Carnival Queen, Alison Twinney, Carnival Princess, Gemma Bannister, Butterfly Princess, Molly Mallon, Carnival Prince, Jordan Hughes, and Junior Prince, George Hiscock - had its own float as well as Dilton Rovers, Dilton Players, Westbury Scouts, Dilton Marsh Pre School, Little Martians Pre School and Dilton Rainbows.
When the procession ended the crowds headed to the playing fields in the village to hear Devizes-based samba band Oisambistas and see a performance from the Trowbridge majorettes.
There was also children’s entertainment with a clown workshop taken by Pedro the Clown as well as a science experiments by the Mad Science Group.
All the proceeds from the day will be split between various groups within the village. Money was also raised for the Help for Heroes charity with a military vehicle display on the playing fields.
Mike Worsley, 48, from High Street, Dilton Marsh, was chairman of Dilton Marsh carnival committee for the first time this year.
He said: “It was quite an experience being chairman - I found it very gratifying due to all the help from the village. It really is a village-wide event.
“It was really well supported by the village with more than 700 people turning out.
“A lot of effort was put in by the committee and volunteers who helped out on the day.
“We are always looking for new members and new ideas.”
If you would like to join or find out more information about the committee please call Mr Worsley on 07985 443594.
