The former Peter Black site in Trowbridge has emerged as a possible location for a long-awaited cinema.
Adam Nardell, who is leading the Transforming Trowbridge project for Wiltshire Council, told an area board meeting on Thursday, that a developer wanted to buy the Cradle Bridge site, off County Way, and put in a cinema.
But this week Parkridge Developments, which owns the site, said they were not planning on selling it, but would consider including a cinema in their scheme instead.
The prospect of a cinema looked grim after the collapse of Modus’s £90m Waterside project, which included an eight-screen Vue cinema.
Nick Scott, director at Parkridge, said a cinema was a possibility for their scheme. They already have planning permission to put in a supermarket, restaurants, homes and a hotel.
“We would absolutely consider a cinema,” he said.
“We would have to work in partnership with the council and make sure they were happy from a planning point of view.
“There is demand in the town for a cinema as well and these things are an ever moving feast.
“From our point of view, we’ll look at all options but we’re very much focusing on what we have got planning permission for at the moment.
“There is someone who has been in touch recently inquiring about the site. But we get a lot of calls like this. We take it with a pinch of salt.”
Mr Scott said Parkridge may also consider buying the former Tesco site, in St Stephen’s Place, which is owned by Deutsche Bank, when it goes up for sale later this month.
Mr Nardell said £65m has already been invested in Trowbridge through The Gateway complex and the Sainsbury’s development, under way on the former Usher’s bottling plant site.

Here are some FACTS:
I have never been arrested and I have no Police Record at all.
I did once receive a Police Warning (ie. unsolicited written advice from the Police) in 2006. It exists as documentary evidence of ill-judged Police interference in an obvious political dispute and which was written without talking to me first. It was based on false allegations made by an old man who is a serial false accuser and serial smear campaigner and who has a clear and long track record of being obsessed with spreading silly stories and making politically-motivate
d, muddled and false claims about me. It came as no surprise when Bill Braid then told various newspapers as part of his smear campaign.
Mr Braid (who became a Westbury Town Councillor again in late 2008) made dozens of false allegations about me to the Standards Board for England in Summer 2005, Summer 2006 and Summer 2007. The 500+ pages, overall, of nonsense was totally thrown out as unacceptable either by the Standards Board for England itself or by a local investigator or at a local hearing because it was all based on bizarrely out-of-context or muddled quotes, hopelessly muddled, unsubstantiated claims, outright falsehoods (ie. lies) and/ or they were not matters which breached any code of conduct anyway (ie. I was doing nothing wrong, though a very muddled person may not understand this). Not one single allegation by him – or the several people he has colluded with – has ever stood up. I was totally exonerated.
Another old man (a Bill Braid supporter – I have photographic and other evidence), is currently running a smear campaign against me using internet chat forums and public comment posts on Wiltshire Times web pages, based on wildly untrue and /or very childish and/or puerile claims and jibes. It is a pity that the Administrators of these web sites fail to properly moderate internet “trolls” to stop their unpleasant and outrageously rude and/or libellous posts.
