Warminster men badly injured in accident

Two men were taken to hospital after they were knocked down by a car in the centre of Warminster last night.

The two 36-year-old men, who are from Cambridge and are believed to be contractors working on the town's army camp, were knocked down outside the John Barleycorn pub in Weymouth Street shortly before 8pm.

A black BMW coupe was seen to be turning into Weymouth Street when it mounted the pavement and struck the two men.

Both were taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by ambulance. One was suffering serious leg and head injuries and the other serious leg and pelvic injuries. Their injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Wiltshire Police closed the road for three hours.

They are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should contact PC Milner at the serious collision investigation team in Amesbury on 0845 4087000.
