The heartbroken family of teenager Jon Deven who died in a car crash in Melksham on Sunday have paid tribute to him.

Jon, 18, from Broughton Gifford, was a passenger in a blue Citroen Saxo which was driving north west along the A350 Western Way when it collided with a bridge parapet by the River Avon at around 3.13am on Sunday.

His mum, Karen Mitchener said: "Our kind hearted, gentle, gorgeous, generous boy Jonathan (Joffy) Deven loved and touched the hearts of everyone that knew him.

"He was a very popular lad with all his friends.

"A hard worker, who stuck to his goals of becoming a motor mechanic in his home village of Broughton Gifford.

"We will never, ever forget you, and will keep you in our hearts forever.

"A loving son, brother, grandchild, nephew and cousin. We love you."

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made but a service is expected in the village church.

Floral tributes have been left at the crash scene and a Facebook group has also been set up in memory of Jon.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
