Children at The Mead Primary School in Hilperton got to grips with robots in a challenge day held on Tuesday.
The 60 pupils in Year 5 at the school’s Paxcroft Mead site spent the day building robots out of Lego in a day run by the University of Bath to teach the children about science, computer programming and renewable energy.
They worked in teams of four and had to build and programme the robots to complete tasks to do with renewable energy, such as moving around model trees or wind turbines, or building a dam.
They tested their robots and had to go back to the drawing board if they didn’t work.
At the end of the day the children’s robots all competed to see how many challenges they could complete.
Jenny Hole, Year 5 teacher, said: “At the moment our focus as a school is science.”
