A Corsham dog walker is seeking information about a mysterious pair of shoes that are nailed to the ground in the middle of Weavern Woods near Corsham.

The men’s brown leather shoes, which are nailed to the ground have become the centre of speculation by walkers and runners who use the path linking Corsham to Slaughterford.

Andrew Williams, of Dicketts Road, Corsham said the mystery has been going on for at least 12 years and hopes people may be able to help solve it.

He said: “I moved to Corsham from Bath about 12 years ago and decided to explore the local area. I went for a walk in Weavern Woods in 1997 as I thought it looked like a nice route and that is when I came across some shoes.

“Originally there were pink ladies shoes there. A few years later they were replaced by pink ladies’ boots in 2006, presumably because they were worn down.”

He said the boots were replaced two years ago by the men’s shoes as they had been torn down, possibly by an animal and they have been there ever since.

Mr Williams said: “I just find it really intriguing. I thought it was a bit strange at first and something weird might be going on but now it’s just turned into a big mystery. It would be nice to find out why they are there.”
