A brother and sister from Trowbridge have taken over a local employment agency with plans to run it to the same high standards the previous owner built up.

Travail Employment Group in Fore Street is now being run by Rachael Clements, 30, and her brother Tom Clements, 28, with previous owner Steve Oborne, 63, taking more of a backseat as a part-time financial controller.

Mr Oborne, who set up the business in January 1994, said he was looking forward to stepping down a bit and at the age of 63 he felt this was a good time for him to hand over the reins.

He is due to visit his son Nick in New Zealand in the coming weeks to see his, as yet, unborn first grandchild, who is expected to be born this week.

He said: “Rachael has been with me for six years so she was a natural choice and it will still be a family business. It will just be a different family running things.

“I have grown the business from scratch and I felt that probably a year away from retirement was the best time to step down.”

As well as the brother and sister team at the helm, their mother Angela Clements will also be coming aboard part time as a recruitment consultant and helping with sales.

Office manager Sandra Gaisford, who has been with Travail in Trowbridge for 14 years, has now taken over as company secretary.

The firm has recently been awarded and recognised as a preferred supplier to the NHS after a tender was put in last August.

Travail also deal with office work and technical and executive positions, including accountants and surveyors.
