A former RAF sergeant has raised £850 for charity through the sale of a book he wrote on fallen war heroes from Melksham.
Martyn Gibson, 53, of Eden Grove, Whitley, decided to write ‘More Than a Picture’ after researching the lives of some of the men featured on Melksham’s war memorial in Canon Square.
Mr Gibson had been at a Remembrance service in 2007 when he started to wonder about the men and their backgrounds.
For his research, Mr Gibson used the internet, records stored at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Chippenham, old copies of the Wiltshire Times and information from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Mr Gibson moved to Wiltshire from Yorkshire after he left the Royal Air Force in 2000 and he now works for BT.
