Someone “up there” must have been smiling on the organisers of Seend Fete on Saturday as the weather cleared up just a few minutes before it started.

Fete chairman Fiona Johnson said the change in the weather assured it was a big success.

She said: “Just before the parade started the rain stopped and we had a fine afternoon.

“We had slightly fewer people than last year, probably because of the weather, but we still took £7,500 in cash with sponsorship money still to be taken into account.

“It was a brilliant afternoon and everybody had a wonderful time.”

Proceeds from the fete will go to local good causes.

Paul Martin, the presenter of TV’s Flog It, who lives locally, turned up to meet people and assess the antiques they brought along.

Mrs Johnson said: “Paul Martin was fantastic. He stayed the whole afternoon and he was just so helpful.”
