Operation Christmas Child, now in its 20th year, sent off a total of 30,796 boxes in Wiltshire alone.

The charity, which collects shoeboxes filled with gifts and sends them to underprivileged children across the world, was once again a huge success and area co-ordinator Hillary McFall said: “It was just brilliant, and I’m chuffed to bits with everyone who helped out.”

This year the boxes will be sent to Liberia, Serbia, Belarus and the Ukraine and will be given to children living in difficult conditions in orphanages, children’s homes, street shelters and hospitals, as well as families that are living in poverty.

The charity is still open if you wish to donate a box. Just log on to their website www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/shoeboxworld.
