A WARMINSTER man who was charged with indecent assault on a boy under 16 has been found dead at the Westbury White Horse just days before his court appearance.

Alan Clarke, of St George’s Close, Warminster, who is married with a child, was due to appear at Swindon Crown Court tomorrow to face an historic charge of indecent assault on a boy under 16.

He was found dead in his car by police at about 1.45am on Tuesday.

An ambulance crew arrived at the scene 15 minutes later and tried to resuscitate the 58-year-old, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm the body of a man was found at the White Horse, Westbury, during the early hours of Tuesday. At this stage there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Pastor Eileen McCann of Kingdom Life Wiltshire church, where Clarke was a member of the congregation, said: "We are deeply saddened at Alan's sudden death.

"In the last three years that he was a member of Kingdom Life he lived to serve in practical ways.

"Our thoughts and prays are now with his wife and family."

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned by Wiltshire and Swindon coroner David Ridley at Salisbury Coroner’s Court yesterday.

No cause of death was given because toxicology tests are still taking place.

*In this week's paper we incorrectly reported that Clarke was a former Sunday School teacher at Kingdom Life Wiltshire church.

The church, which was formed in 2008, is an amalgamation of Lord's Church, Trowbridge, and Kingdom Revival church in Westbury.

Clarke was a former member of the latter.
