A celebration of all things Corsham is to be held on June 25.

The first-ever Civic Day has been organised in a bid to draw attention to the town and its groups and organisations.

The event, which has been set up by the town’s civic society and the Corsham Area Development Trust, features the annual French Market in the High Street from 8.30am until 2.30pm, and a French-themed window dressing competition will take place in local shops.

The Corsham Embroidery Group will show a display of its work for Quilts 4 London, a community project for the London 2012 Olympics in which groups around the country are working to create 14,000 pennants for Olympic athletes.

The display will be unveiled at Corsham Heritage and Tourist Information Centre in the High Street.

A photographic competition for adults and children is being held this month by the heritage centre, with an exhibition of the finalists on show at the town hall on the same day. The winning entries will be used in a 2012 Corsham calendar.

The day will also see guided walks for local primary school children around the gardens and park of Corsham Court where they will learn about local history and wildlife.

A toddler’s workshop will be held at the Methuen Arms pub in the morning, while a fun quiz about the town has been set up at the tourist information centre, where entrants can pick up question papers.

Civic Society president Anne Lock said: “June 25 is the closing day of the Corsham Festival too. It is the culmination of a week of celebration of all the things which are good in Corsham, and which we do well.”
