WARMINSTER soldier Jonjo Kerr will find out on Saturday if he is through to the live finals in ITV’s X-Factor, after a week with seven other over-25s in Barcelona.

After initially wowing judges with a hit rendition of Stereophonics hit Handbags and Gladrags, the 28-year-old, a member of the 3rd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, will be travelling to the home of judge Louis Walsh.

Jonjo, who is married to Melissa and has a six-year-old son, Bradley, grew up in Chorley, Lancashire.

He joined the army in 2009, and has said he wants to win the contest in honour of the friends he has lost while serving in Afghanistan.

He told audiences that facing judges Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh was more terrifying than anything he’s faced in the Army.

Captain Chris Ibbotson, of 3 Yorks, said: “Private Jonjo Kerr has the full support of his Commanding Officer and members of the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, and we wish him the best of luck in this process.”

Jacqui Gunton, landlady at The Bath Arms in Warminster town centre, where Jonjo and his mates are regulars, said the customers would all be rooting for him.

“He’s been coming in here for a couple of years with his army mates, and entertaining us with his karaoke singing. We will all be backing Jonjo. He is a very nice young gent.”
