Resurfacing work will start on the M4 at Swindon on Monday night for a week.

The overnight work will see the junction 15 interchange resurfaced and joints on bridges over the motorway repaired.

The work is being carried out each night and is expected to be completed overnight on Sunday, February 5.

While work is carried out, there will be traffic restrictions on the slip roads at the junction – and across part of the junction – all with fully signed diversions in place.

Highways Agency project leader Graham Threader said: "Periodic maintenance of this type is essential to keeping up the M4’s strong safety record.

"By carrying this work out at night, when traffic flows are lowest, and completing it in a week, we hope to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

"However, journeys are bound to take a bit longer when the diversions are in place, so I’d advise drivers planning to use this junction overnight next week to leave some extra time to reach their destinations."

One side of the interchange will be closed each evening, with fully signed diversions in place.

On some nights, the north side of the roundabout will be closed along with the eastbound entry and exit slip roads.

Drivers will be diverted via nearby junctions on the M4 and through Swindon, Chiseldon, Aldbourne and Hungerford.

On other nights, the south side of the roundabout will be closed, along with the westbound entry and exit slip roads.

Fully signed diversion routes will be in place via nearby junctions on the M4 and through Swindon, Wroughton and Chiseldon.

The closures will be in place between 10pm and 6am each night, except for Friday and Sunday, when they will begin at 11pm and 8pm respectively.

All restrictions will be removed outside working hours.
