A cat charity in West Wiltshire is appealing for volunteers to help house the animals.
Cats Action Trust (North and West Wilts) relies on a team of “fosterers” to look after cats needing new homes.
Its secretary, Angela Crossley, said: “We don’t have a cats home, we have a team of fosterers. If someone rings up saying they’ve found a stray, or perhaps they’re moving to accommodation where they can’t have a cat, we can take it in.
“We’ve started to do an audit to see how many come in and go in a month. At the end of December we had 51; it’s quite a large number for about 12 fosterers.” The charity is always looking for homes for many of the cats and kittens, as well as fosterers to look after cats temporarily.
The trust’s main source of funds is its shop in Bath Road, Melksham For details of fostering, call the trust on 01225 700857.
