Man asks for change to bail conditions so he can eat at his mum's

A 21-year-old burglar asked a judge to change his bail conditions so he could live at his mum’s because she always had food for him.

Ryan Jones had just admitted three break-ins and driving a car which had been taken in one of the raids when a judge adjourned for reports.

But speaking from the dock he asked for his bail address to change so he could go to his mum’s house.

And asking for the move from Westbury to Trowbridge barrister Nick Fridd reiterated the request for a change saying it was ‘because his mum’s always got food for him’.

Jones admitted carrying out three burglaries and driving a car after the keys were taken during one of the break-ins, when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday.

He pleaded guilty to driving a Renault Clio with two accomplices in it after taking the keys from a property in Charlotte Square, Trowbridge.

And after taking the vehicle overnight on Wednesday, August 3, into the following morning he admitted it was damaged before it was recovered a few days later.

The 21-year-old also admitted driving the car otherwise than in accordance with a licence and without insurance.

As well as taking the car keys Jones and a second man, Neil Vaughan, 19, also stole tobacco and cash in the break in.

The pair also burgled a house in Innox Mill Close on the same night, stealing electrical items and jewellery.

They were joined by a third man, 20-year-old Christopher Cain, during the second raid at the property.

All three were then in the car which was damaged between being taken and Monday, August 8.

Jones, formerly of Frogmore Road, Westbury, but now living with mum in Silver Birch Grove, Trowbridge, pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary and one of aggravated taking without consent.

Judge Euan Ambrose adjourned the case against him to Friday, March 2, and released him on conditional bail.

He said: "The fact that I am giving you bail and ordering a pre-sentence report is no indication that this won’t be a custodial sentence.

"I am sure you have been advised of that and I am sure that you appreciate that so you mustn’t read anything into the grant of bail."

At an earlier hearing Vaughan, of Summerdown Walk, Trowbridge, pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary and one of aggravated taking without consent.

Cain, of Ogilvy Square, Calne, also pleaded guilty to one burglary and the offence of being carried in a taken car and both were also released on bail.
