A Trowbridge man who carried out a knife point robbery at a garage in the town on New Year’s Eve has been sentenced to 32 months in prison.
Fifty-year-old Peter Roy Osborne from Wingfield Road, Trowbridge, entered the petrol filling station of Tesco on County Way shortly before 5.20pm and, armed with a knife, demanded money from the till. He then left with around £150.
Police hunted down Peter Osborne within five minutes, arrested him in the town park, and both the cash and weapon were recovered.
He was charged with robbery and possession of a knife and was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court last Friday after pleading guilty to the offences.
Detective Constable Keith Harford from Melksham CID who led the investigation said: "Thankfully no one was injured during what was a very frightening ordeal for those involved who remained calm throughout the incident.
"My thanks go out to the people who were able to assist officers in those very early stages which allowed them to locate and arrest the offender quickly and recover the weapon used.
"As a force we continue to work hard to tackle violent crimes like this one and we seeing a difference with violent crime in Wiltshire continuing to fall."
