Police are appealing to the public for information after a serious sexual assault involving a 12-year-old girl in Trowbridge.

At approximately 4pm on a day in early January, the 12-year-old was walking through the wooded area near Church Street and Manvers Street when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as black, of skinny build, in his thirties, about six feet tall with green eyes, short cropped hair, slight stubble and a dimple on his chin. He was wearing a blue hooded top with blue drawstrings, blue jeans with a rip on the right knee, an earring in his left ear and a thick gold ring on one of the fingers of his right hand.

Tracey Mead of Melksham CID, said: “This was a very frightening experience for the girl involved and understandably she is still coming to terms with what happened to her.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and I am now in a position to appeal for help from the public. Unfortunately we do not have a specific date for when the assault took place, however the suspect is quite distinctive looking and I would hope that someone out there knows who he is.

“You can be assured that any information we receive is treated in the strictest of confidence.”

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after the attack took place in January this year.
