Thousands of people are expecting to be wowed by three impressive air displays at this year’s Trowbridge Armed Forces and Veterans Day celebrations.

The celebrations, which last year attracted 9,000 people, will take place on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 in Trowbridge Park.

A spitfire will fly overhead, while the Silver Stars will parachute into the arena on the Saturday.

Then on Sunday at noon there will be a performance from the Red Devils, the Parachute Regiment and British Army team.

Organiser Maryrose Mantle, from Trowbridge Town Council, believes the sixth year it has run could be the best yet.

She said: "This will be an exciting and thrilling event for everyone in the family.

"It will be amazing to see the plane go overhead and watch as they come out of the aircraft to do their parachute and then to see them spiral slowly into the grounds. It is a magnificent sight."

The day will see more wartime re-enactors and vintage military vehicles will make an appearance, while the Wessex Military Band will reprise their role in playing for the crowds.

There will be displays from various military organisations such as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) and the Royal British Legion.

Each year a different force takes the lead at the event and this year’s event is being co-ordinated with direction from Air Commodore Martin Clark, from the Royal Air Force.

On the Sunday there will be a parade through the streets of Trowbridge town centre which will involve local veterans and cadets. It will culminate in a drumhead service in Trowbridge Park, from where the rest of the afternoon’s festivities will continue.

Mrs Mantle added: "It is a great show. Last year we were shortlisted as one of the 10 best Armed Forces Day events in the UK and I’m hoping to make it equally impressive this year."
