Centre’s healthy treats

CHILDREN attending a sports centre's half term club will be given healthy meal and snack alternatives as part of a drive by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

Instead of junk food like crisps and chocolate, those visiting a holiday club at Christie Miller Sports Centre in Bowerhill at half term at the end of the month will be offered fruit at break time.

Duty manager Marc Bowden said: "With the on-going Jamie Oliver campaign it is obvious the majority of parents are worried about what their children are eating. We are going to sell fruit vouchers to parents on the way in to the centre, which can only be redeemed for fruit at break and lunchtime.

"This way, parents know the break money they give their children is being used towards a healthy diet."

In addition to this Pasta King, pasta with a choice of sauces, is also being added to the children's menu.
