Help rewarded at Trowbridge civic awards

Hardworking citizens of Trowbridge who give something back to their community, often as volunteers, have been rewarded for their efforts at the town’s annual civic awards ceremony.

Outgoing town mayor Nick Blakemore handed out 36 awards to individuals and organisations including town crier Trevor Heeks and former police inspector Dave Cullop.

Cllr Blakemore said: “What can we say about Trevor that hasn’t been said a thousand times before? He is a legend. He travels the length and breadth of the country and oversees promoting Trowbridge with his cries. He is our best ambassador.”

The evening also saw Major Jim Davidson, the C Company Commander of the Wiltshire Army Cadet Force, give a presentation at the Trowbridge Civic Centre.

Other winners on the evening included Barry Perry and Jackie Dowell, from the Sensory Garden, and Bill Steele, secretary of the West Wilts and Bath Royal Engineers Association.

Knees department store worker Bill Wyllie, who won an award,was praised for picking up litter each day as he travels to and from work.

Other people who have been involved in promoting the town’s heritage, sporting world, environment and individual neighbourhoods were also rewarded for their efforts. All were nominated by other residents.
