Rowde man charged following attack on Westbury solicitor

Rowde property developer Michael Chudley has been charged in connection with the attack on solicitor Jim Ward on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after midnight last night Chudley, 62, from Rowde Mill House, Rowde, was charged with the attempted murder of Mr Ward, who remains in a critical condition at Frenchay Hospital.

He is also charged with threats to kill, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and carrying a firearm with criminal intent.

He remains in police custody and will appear before Salisbury magistrates later this morning.

Mr Ward, 58, who lives in Bratton, near Westbury, was seriously injured at his office at Morris, Goddard & Ward Solicitors in St John's Street, Devizes, on Monday.

He was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol where he remains in a serious condition with his family at his bedside.
