Diesel spill causes traffic chaos near Warminster

Spilled diesel caused havoc on the A350 near East Knoyle, south of Warminster, on Tuesday morning with two cars crashing within an hour of each other.

At around 6.45am the East Knoyle driver of a Ford Ka lost control of the vehicle and sustained injuries in a crash that led to him being taken to Salisbury District Hospital as a precaution.

Before Highways Agency gritters equipped with sand arrived to tackle the spillage, a blue BMW also crashed, but the driver, from Shaftesbury, was uninjured.

Both vehicles had to be recovered from the scene and the road was closed for more than an hour while it was made safe.

Police said the source of the diesel is currently unknown.
