A new game of street snooker has been installed at a Trowbridge park, using £15,000 of funding handed over by developers.

The facility has been put in for young people at Stallards Park, after town councillors supported the initiative paid for by money collected as part of planning approvals, known as Section 106 payments.

Street snooker combines football and snooker. Players kick a ball against a wall and have to hit targets, designed to look like snooker balls, to score points.

Town clerk Lance Allan said: “This has been fully funded by developers’ Section 106 money and was agreed by Wiltshire Council.

“It is one of a number of similar installations in Wiltshire. Calne, for example, has one.

“It is great because it complements the other facilities that we already have, such as the skate park.

“Street snooker is different to other games and helps with co-ordination, so we hope it will prove popular.”

The town council runs regular roadshows and on Wednesdays, between 10am and 2pm, its Active Trow-bridge team visit Stallards Park. In coming weeks, it will be showing young people how to play the game.
